I am looking to get a 250cc - 500cc bike. I would like it to include a fuel gauge, and I'd like it to be sporty (but not a crotch rocket). It is my first bike so I won't be going all out on it, and I don't mind it being a few years old. I have been looking at Ninjas, but other than that I haven't been able to find many details on other 250cc - 500cc bikes. I am 5'3" and 130lbs. If you think that I am stretching my weight ratio on any of these please let me know. For the last year I had been set on getting a Yamaha FZ6, but now I am worried that it will be too heavy for me.
Which Motorcycle Is Appropriate?

Which Motorcycle Is Appropriate?
Your weight ratio to bike size is a non issue. YOu are definitley not too heavy fo any bike in that range. You are fine for a moped . Your weight will most definitely not tax the engine and for what it was designed to do. Do not worry about that. The bike you are looking at is more than adequate to meet your criteria plus there are many many others by Japanese maufactrers that can also meet yourneeds. Honda/Suzuki and Kawasaki all have some in that range and price point. Bike for bike, Honda will ususally cost a few hundred more thatn the others. But they are all of good quality. Nothing in the Harlrey Line will meet your needs. Their smallest displacement(CC) is 883cc unless you go to their sisster make...Buell at 650 CC
Be sure to find a delar who will let you test ride before you purchase....
One more thing, it will be very difficult to find a bike at that level with a fuel gauge
Good luck with your search

Reply:Contrary to what many believe and say, height and weight are not the most important factor in deciding a bike. Skill level is the most. You can handle the heaviest bike with no problem. People drop bikes because of lack of skill. You hold a bike up with the highest part of you inner thighs. "CROTCH rocket". When people try to hold it up with their arms it won't work because the force is too far from the center of gravity.
You should get the bike you really want. Just prepare yourself with formal training and lots of practice. Everybody is nervous on their first bike even if it's a 50CC. That fear fades quickly and you don't want to be stuck with a bike you really didn't want to begin with.
I know a woman who is 5'1" and rides a GSXR1000. I would never recommend that bike for a newbie but I'm making the point that in this case size doesn't matter.
There are a whole slew of used bikes between 250 and 500 CCs. Honda has a CBR250, of course you know about the Ninja, Suzuki has a GPZ250 or GP250 something like that. KTM has a sexy one. Most sporty bikes under 600CCs are ugly but great on gas. It's up to you but get what YOU want.
Everybody is going to recommend the 2008 ninja 250. It's a great bike no doubt. It means nothing if that's not what you really want.
Take the MSF course before you buy anything. It will help in deciding because it will build your confidence.
Reply:i think you should look at and test drive a Honda crf 450 street and trail or the yzf street and trail they good bikes to start out on and easy to ride
